Fusion 360: Mirror, Pattern, and Revolve
#4: Design symmetrical, pattern-based, objects in 2D and 3D
Hello readers,
Today’s Fusion 360 lesson is about mirroring and creating patterns in 2D sketches, as well as revolving those sketches around an axis.
These tools can be used to duplicate unique shapes by mirroring them across a line, or creating a linear or circular pattern. The revolve tool rotates those unique shapes around an axis to form a 3D shape. There are additional options in the mirror, pattern, and revolve settings that allow you to customize the features’ outputs.
Learning these features will speed up your sketching and extruding, as well as opening your mind to different methods you could use to get the same resulting design.
Mirror, Pattern, and Revolve Tutorial
In this video I will:
Create multiple sketch
Demonstrate and explain mirror, linear pattern, and circular pattern in 2D
Demonstrate and explain revolve in 3D
Extrude multiple objects in the process
Exercise
Utilize the mirror, pattern, and revolve features to create something useful
Ex: A pencil holder
Try different quantities of copies, angles (full, partial), shapes, etc.
I encourage you to have fun with this one and see what you can come up with
